Usually Mondays are just BLAH BLAH days, but today lead the way to greatness. Yesterday was Superbowl Sunday and I bought a square on the football pool board. When I got my numbers, I wasn't very pleased since they were Steelers 5 and Packers 1. The number 5 is ALMOST as bad as 2. So needless to say, my expectations were very small.
Jack made a wonderful dinner including roast chicken, stuffing, mashed potatoes, carrots and peas for dinner prior to the game. We ate and then sat down to watch. The game was actually entertaining and I was enjoying it. The fun came during the forth quarter. Once the Steelers made that two-point conversion to make the score 25-28, I thought to myself, if the Packers get a field goal, I will have my numbers.
As you know, the Packers got all the way to the 5 yard line and had 3 downs to get a touchdown. I kept yelling at the TV, "NO!! We only need a field goal." Jack and Olivia were laughing at me. I was so happy when they weren't able to complete the passes for a touchdown and had to kick a field goal. Now my numbers were on the board, but there was still 4:27 seconds left.
I kept thinking, EWWWW, that is a lot of time left. So the Steelers got the ball and ran their first down and managed to get a 15 yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. This was awesome because it made it harder for them to score. Jack pointed out that they better be careful not to get a safety. He was so helpful in adding the positive energy....NOT!! The next play they were able to complete a throw and managed to get in a good field position. Because they were running, the clock ticked down pretty quickly. It came down to the 4th down and they needed three yards for a first down. I couldn't believe when they didn't make it. This left about 48 seconds on the clock with the Packers having possession of the ball. They sat on the ball and the game ended with my winning numbers.
What did that mean for me, you ask? $600!!!! I was so psyched. It played out exactly as I wanted it to. The way I orchestrated it in my mind.
So today when I got to work, I was excited about collecting my money and celebrating. When I arrived at work, I told Becky I won the football pool for $600. Her first response was, I guess you are buying lunch. I decided that I will bring bagels to work tomorrow and maybe some donuts. I have also decided to take my normal group of ladies who go for "Girls' Night Out" out to dinner this month. I love the idea of sharing the wealth.
I am going to put the rest away for a rainy day. =)
