This morning I woke up to sleet hitting the windows at 4AM. The forecast called for several inches of snow with the possibility of a changeover to sleet and freezing rain. I don't mind driving in the snow, but I truly don't like to drive in the ice.
I went back to sleep for a while and woke again about 6:30AM and decided that the roads warranted working from home today. I am thankful that I can use the Internet to get to my work files from home and be productive and not have to worry about driving on treacherous roads.
At about 10:30, it started to rain. I had a lot to do at work since it is month-end close and all so I got dressed and was heading out. Well, I got to the gate and it was frozen shut. Apparently, the rain that was falling was immediately freezing to anything it touched. I knew this was not a wise decision so I retreated back into the house.
Everyone was home today since school was cancelled and Jack is on vacation. You would think this would be pleasant, but everyone was very cranky today. I'm not sure if it was the weather or just the change in plans.
Now during the middle of the night, I have tried to sleep and was unsuccessful. So with that said, I want to list a few things I am thankful for.
I am thankful for:
71. I am thankful for the new people in my church who jumped right in and joined the family night event. It was so nice to see Julie and Brendan, Janene and Neil and their families at bowling tonight.
72. I am thankful for my nephew, Aaron, who is honored his mom and dad this past weekend with an anniversary party. He planned it himself and they should be so proud!
73. I am thankful for the opportunities my kids are given. Olivia was excited that Mo and her worship team were invited back to kids' camp. Last year, Olivia was part of the lead worship team and loved it. This year, they may do two weekends. I'm excited about what God is doing in Olivia's life and that she is so faithful serving.
74. I am thankful for being able to stay home today instead of driving on those nasty roads and risking harm to me or my car.
75. I am thankful to be able to put a PRAISE report out on the prayer chain tonight. God is so good and faithful when we call on him.
76. I am thankful to see both my nieces pulling themselves up and standing.
77. I am thankful to see the big tax refund we will get. Hopefully it will cover the closing costs once we hear we get the house. If not, it will cover repairs to our current house.
78. I am thankful for the beautiful scene I saw coming out of work on Monday. All the tree branches were covered with snow and the sunset put such a beautiful background to them. The sky was lit with fire and the walk to my car after work was spectacular.
79. I am thankful that my knee is feeling better. Hopefully it corrected itself.
80. I am thankful for the text I got from Wendy telling me about the reservation she made for dinner on Saturday.
Be thankful and make the world your oyster!
Blessings,
Lynnette

A Busy Week With A Lot of Blessings
Happy Friday! I went to work yesterday thinking it was Friday. Much to my surprise, my friend Becky set the record straight. Has that ever happened to you? I didn't know whether to be disappointed or thankful. That was the sentiment for most of the week. One minute I was disappointed and the next I was remembering to be thankful. My conclusion: Be thankful even if you are feeling disappointed. There is something very powerful about being thankful. It's like saying, I don't have a million dollars, but I'm sure happy I have enough money to have a place to live and food on my table. Learn to be thankful in everything you do.
After getting over the shock of it being Thursday in lieu of Friday, I began to be thankful because I LOVE Thursday nights. Thursday nights I meet with some amazing women to get closer to God and get closer to them. These nights bring such learning conversation where we all share experiences that bring us closer and minister to each other through our own trials and successes. We share our hard times and we share our good times. We learn how each other coped during these times and become sisters.
Friday has arrived! I woke up early with a headache but I'm still thankful I woke up. =) It will be a day of work and then a fun-filled night of bowling, food and fellowship. My church is very intentional about being together socially outside of Sunday service. I love that! We don't just honor God on Sunday and then dismiss him for the week. We honor Him all throughout the week and want Him present in all we do. There is something about spending time with people from church that suddenly makes them family and before you know it, you are surrounded by family everywhere you go. What a great concept!
Have a thankful and happy day!
I am thankful for:
51. All the people who took the time to write on my Facebook page and wish me happy birthday. Celebrating your birthday on Facebook is such an ego boost. In the old days, maybe 10 people would wish me happy birthday. Now because of technology, over 90 people wished me happy birthday from near and far! I thank you all for taking the time out of your day to send birthday wishes and make me feel special.
52. I am thankful for my husband who brought my favorite dinner home, bought some fabulous chocolate cake and spent time with me on my birthday.
53. I am thankful for my friend Valerie who surprised me with a mysteriously flavored cake and a beautifully funny birthday card. She served me and the ladies this spectacular cake. She mentioned she had called my daughter to find out what kind of cake I liked and Olivia told her she wasn't sure but chocolate or peanut butter would be good. This cake was neither of those but a wonderfully flavored cake that reminded us of maple syrup and spice with nuts. It was a mystery flavor for a while and quite a distraction to our get together. Every time we would start our discussion, there was more talk about the unknown flavor of the cake. Finally, Dori Googled "cake flavor that tastes like maple syrup" and found that it was......DRUM ROLL.....butter pecan cake. I had never had that flavor but I have now added it to my favorite list. Thanks, Val!
54. I am thankful for my friend Becky who on an annual basis, on my birthday, makes me the sweet treat of my choice. It seems that I have found Snickers pie to be my favorite. It is a pie with a pretzel crust, a layer of Snickers bar pieces, peanut butter pie filling and finally topped with melted chocolate and peanuts. It is beautiful to look at and scrumptious to eat. Thank you Becky!
55. I am thankful for the time in the car that my kids tell me what is on their minds.
56. I am thankful that it didn't rain this week.
57. I am thankful for my job that keeps my mind and me busy.
58. I am thankful that I got to play with Lyla and Ani this past weekend.
59. I am thankful for my church family as well as my own.
60. I am thankful for camera phones which allow me to see my nieces grow even though they are miles away.
61. I am thankful that Corey comes to greet me every morning just to tell me he loves me.
62. I am thankful for the time I have waited to hear about our future home. It has helped me to organize my finances, test my patience and dream about how next year will be.
63. I am thankful for my health and the health of my family.
64. I am thankful for the text messages my dad sends me when he thinks of me.
65. I am thankful for the phone call from my mom this week.
66. I am thankful for the birthday cards I received in the mail.
67. I am thankful for the two people who called me up and sang to me. (One of them has sung to me on my birthday for about 35 years)
68. I am thankful for the foot sander I have that makes my feet soft again.
69. I am thankful for the Internet which makes the world a much smaller place allowing me to feel closer to those I love.
70. I am thankful that the current temperature is in the teens without a minus sign in front of it.
Go out into this world and be thankful and make this world your oyster!

That's what I love about Sundays....
I just love Sundays. I usually wake up early and thank the Lord for another day. Then I start to figure out how much time I have before I need to get to church. I read email, look at QVC, HSN, and Facebook so I can see everything everyone else has done since I went to sleep the night before.
Then Corey usually joins me and we snuggle for a few minutes until it's time to get dressed. We get dressed and head out to church. We make our weekly stop at Burger King for breakfast sandwiches since you can't beat two for $3. Today we did just that. Corey had sausage and I ordered bacon. I wasn't that hungry so I saved mine and rewarded Ben, a nice young man from church , who got up early to serve in the sound ministry. He was very thankful and gave me a hug.
Once we got to church, I was greeted by my church family and I greeted the rest. The sermon was on judgement and how we can make first impression judgements just by the the way we feel about someone before we even know them. Immediately, we determine if someone is nice or if someone is grumpy. We decide that the nice people deserve better than the not-so-nice people. It made me very reflective and saddened me a bit since I can be very judgemental at times. After the sermon, I prayed that God put my heart straight and protect and guide me to live a righteous life.
After church, Corey and I went to Walmart to find a new Ipod case since he damaged his. We didn't find one so we picked up some shirts for Jack and headed out. We stopped at JC Penney's to return a damaged sweater and scored the same one and an additional one since they were on sale and I also had a coupon!
Once we completed all of that, we were starving! We went to Bonanza, a place I usually avoid since I cant control myself at a buffet. Yep, I did. I did overeat and left there with such a stomach ache. Corey and I agreed that Bonanza was not the place for us. We came home and took a nap. It was really cold today but the snow was so pretty.
It was a lazy day. Tonight I played cards online with my long-time card partner. It was like a warm, fuzzy pair of slippers. So comforting and pleasant.
The day ended well and I am very thankful. That is what I love about Sundays. Tomorrow, I will try to find something I love about Monday, but don't hold your breath too long. =)
41. I am thankful for beautiful snow through the church windows.
42. I am thankful for worship songs that make me feel close to Jesus
43. I am thankful for my long-time friend and card partner.
44. I am thankful for down time that I can just take a nap and relax.
45. I am thankful Corey let me cut his hair so he can be even more handsome. I wish he would let me shave off his mustache!
46. I am thankful that the VCC prayer chain will be starting next week.
47. I am thankful that I have learned to be obedient to the Holy Spirit's calling.
48. I am thankful that football season is almost over!
49. I am thankful that I have a job to go to tomorrow.
50. I am thankful for the message I received from the realtor on Friday telling me that all the attorneys, his, hers and the bank's are working to get the house deal settled. The Sheriff sale has also been postponed.
Now go and be thankful and make this world your oyster. God Bless!

It's been a long week.......
It has been a long week! Now that I have revived my blog, I already had to take a week away from posting. Well, it is Friday and I'm thankful that the weekend has arrived.
I spent this week visiting Aunt Bernie, playing online card games, taking down the Christmas Tree and spending Thursday night with my amazing women friends. Like I said, it was a busy one!
Today I will not limit my thankfulness to five entries. I will post as many as I feel so that God can know I am totally thankful for the life He has blessed me with.
31. I am thankful to have the Internet that brings the people who are far away, that much closer.
32. I am thankful for my new iPhone.
33. I am thankful that my son tells me he loves me every day and he understands just how much I love him. He said, "You love me just a little bit more than I love you." That works for me.
34. I am thankful that Olivia thinks to call me during the day just to say hi before she goes to work.
35. I am thankful for chocolate mint Gertrude Hawk Smidgens that are left over from Christmas. They hit the spot tonight.
36. I am thankful that I heard from the realtor that the potential house has been taken off the sheriff sale listing and that the attorneys and bank are working to get this deal completed. I'm thankful God knows me so well and gives me comfort and peace when I star to worry about things He has covered.
37. I am thankful for my job. It allows me to do something I like and pays me to boot.
38. I'm thankful that the dog was only across the street after she escaped and I didn't have to search the neighborhood to find her.
39. I am thankful to have a warm house, food on the table, and clothing on my back. Very thankful that I don't have to live outside.
40. I am thankful that Julie let me hold Jude Thursday night even though he started crying shortly thereafter and I had to give him back.
Until tomorrow, let the world be your oyster.
32. I am thankful for my new iPhone.

So the Sharpie challenge continued into today. The response was overwhelming with entries from near and far. It was so neat to see every one's individual interpretation of their art. Below are the additional entries that you can see for yourself. Everyone is so creative! Young and old had fun with this. Don't be afraid to use your talents, even if it is just for fun!
Thanks to everyone who participated. I will choose the winner tomorrow.
Isn't the art amazing?! Thanks to everyone who contributed.
Today I am thankful for:

It's challenge time. My daughter Livie created this artwork masterpiece yesterday using a piece of paper and a few black sharpies (different tip widths).
Of course, with the artists in the family, everyone thinks they can create a better one. My challenge to you is:
1. Find a piece of paper
2. Get a few Sharpie markers (color or black and white is fine).
3. Create some Sharpie art and post a picture of it here: https://www.facebook.com/events/199931016878725/?ref_dashboard_filter=upcoming ! Be sure to leave an email address in your comment so I can reach you if you win the prize (a gift from me)! This contest is totally subjective as I will be choosing the winner based on the entry I like the most.
The deadline is Sunday, January 5th at midnight. There is a prize (a gift from me)! So get your Sharpies out and create something wonderful while you are stuck inside during this time of frigid temperatures and snow! Share this post with your families and friends. Let's create something beautiful
